Where My Coffee Addiction Started

From the beginning I told you that there were three main things I care about in life- one being iced oat milk lattes. So I thought it was only fitting for my first post to be about where my caffeine addiction came from.

For starters- I am a barista at a local coffee shop called Nervous Dog Coffee Bar. I started working here when I was 17 and have loved my job ever since. The customers are awesome, my coworkers are drama free, and most importantly I get an unlimited supply of coffee. I was so stoked when I first landed this job because 1. I was itching to get out of my job prior and 2. It had always been a dream of mine to be a barista.

When I first started working here I didn’t drink much coffee and I stuck more to teas, and the occasional seltzer. I don’t think it was until the covid lockdown that I began to actually like coffee. I think we all remember the viral whipped coffee- and although that tasted like ass, I think that trend was what got me excited to try new drinks and experiment at work.

Nervous Dog actually closed down for a couple months during the pandemic so for a while there I did not have access to good coffee. So when we reopened all of my creative juices were flowing and I was excited to try the tutorials I saw on TikTok. We were EXTREMELY slow when we opened back up since everyone was still trying to understand Covid and get a gauge of the risks of going into the outside world so I had lots of time on my hands. And so the Nervous Dog TikTok was born.

For a while there, I was making little videos explaining what different coffee drinks are, highlighting drinks from our menu, and giving ratings of each. Through this, I discovered the oat milk latte with honey and cinnamon. The most delicious combination known to man. The creamy oat milk, the sweet yet subtle touch of honey, and the twist of cinnamon- 11/10. From this day forth I have been a changed woman, and it has been my go-to everywhere I go.
