Trends I Never Got On Board With

Trends have been harder and harder to keep up with recently. I feel like every other day there's this new hot trend that everyone is eating up, and it can be exhausting and EXPENSIVE to buy into these new styles. All it takes is one tiktoker, or one famous Pinterest post to send everyone into a frantic shopping frenzy.

Although some of these trends have caught my eye, there are still some that I have never and will never get on board with.

DISCLAIMER: wear whatever the fuck you want sister!! My opinion means absolutely nothing lmao

Exhibit A: Tennis Skirts

The tennis skirt trend was super big a couple of years ago and has been on the decline since… and here’s why I think that happened.

I see what they’re going for but I just don’t think it's giving what it needs to give. The problem with the tennis skirt is that it had a mega BOOM of everyone and their mother wearing it- to it getting tossed to the side a couple months later. I think the main problem is that the skirt is not very versatile. The only way I have seen this skirt styled is with an oversized crewneck/sweater, and is mostly seen with a collared shirt underneath- bonus points if they’re also carrying an expensive black leather mini bag.

What i’m trying to say is; she had her time to shine, but I think it got too trendy too fast and it kinda lost its ~pizzazz~ before I could get on board with it.

Exhibit B: Patchwork Jeans (SPECIFICALLY THESE)

Again- I see why these were a trend, but I still have to ask why?

The choke hold these pants had on all of us last year was insane. I think much like the tennis skirt- this style got too trendy too fast. The colors, specifically looking at the pink/purple ones, is what made them go stale. Since the pants are so bold and in your face, all I could think when I saw them was “oh those are the viral tiktok pants”, not “these are cute, fun, and fresh”.

When it gets to the point that everyone has the same exact pants, same exact style, same exact colors, that's when the trend dies IMO.

Exhibit C: Low Rise Jeans

My first question is why were these ever a style? And my second question is why are these coming back?

I remember wearing these as a kid and hated them because my butt crack was always hanging out. Gotta bend down to pick up something you dropped? Unless you want to moon everyone, you better think twice.

I thought we all agreed that high-waisted clothing was better so I was confused when I started seeing this trend come back. Some people can rock the low waisted look, but those people are usually a size triple zero and have the flattest stomach i've ever seen. The outfit inspo on Pinterest of these low rise jeans is chefs kiss but like I said before, I will not be partaking in this trend because simply put- high waisted is better.
