A Hell of a Trip to France

Where to begin...
My trip to France was a two week endeavor alongside my grandma (73), My cousin Emma (23), and my cousin Hannah (19). We flew out June 24 from Cleveland with a destination of Paris, France (WOOHOO!). We then spent 3 days exploring the city, eating food, and overall recouping after the dreadful red eye. After that, we then took a 5 hour train ride from Paris to Gourdon, where we then stayed another 10 days at this watercolor retreat. There, we ate AMAZING food, explored BEAUTIFUL towns in the countryside, and learned the art of ~watercolor~ (which I absolutely sucked at).
I'll go into detail in some future posts about more of my trip, so be on the lookout for those because I definitely have some hot takes about my experience!!
but now that you have some context...
Lets take a deep dive into the shit storm.
I got back from my trip on July 7th and I was SO glad to be home. My boyfriend picked me up from the airport with flowers and a sign ;) just like in the movies, it was so sweet. All was well...until it wasn't.
About two days later I stated feeling unwell no matter what I ate, and I just felt so nauseous constantly. I told my mom that I was feeling ill and she told me it was probably my body adjusting back to our shitty, HIGHLY processed foods here in the states. I took her word for it because moms know best and went on a couple more days just grinning and bearing it.
Then there was July 13th...
I woke up in the morning feeling extra bad, and immediately started my morning off with an explosive shit, and terrible stomach cramping. I took a shower before getting ready for work because I thought that would make me feel better...but SpOiLeR aLeRt!! still felt like shit...
I got to work...barely... but tried to keep my cool because I thought the storm would pass.
later in the day I started having body aches, chills, and a throbbing headache- the headache wasn't too out of character for me, but the other symptoms were a little concerning so I ended up leaving work 30 minutes early. I told my mom about my symptoms when I got home and she told me I should probably go to the minute clinic-I'm actually a child on the inside though so I refused to go since she wasn't willing to go with me.
Fast forward to the next morning.
Again, same as the morning prior- an absolute explosion of a poop. But if I had to take a guess, I'd say I had about 8 in the span of an hour.
A little bit later my mom came upstairs to check on me and told me that she was going to take me to urgent care since I was probably severely dehydrated from all the- you get the point.
We headed to urgent care but when we got there and talked to the doctor, they told us we needed to go to the ER since I would probably have to give a stool sample, get blood work done, and get an IV for liquids.
I then have a meltdown because I have a severe irrational fear of needles :) yay!
We then got to the ER and the receptionist was a bitch, but thankfully there was a nice nurse that took us to the back and got things moving. I'll save you the details, but I gave a sample and it was the most humbling experience of my life, they did blood work and it all came back normal, and then they gave me an IV and to my surprise- I survived!
We then headed back home with antibiotic in hand and a hope for things looking up! Spoiler alert again! I was indeed NOT on the up and up.
The next day is July 15 and this is when I get a call from an unknown number- I usually don't answer these calls and let them go to voicemail, but this day I guess I was in a silly goofy mood and decided to pick up the phone. And who do you think was on the other line? The Summit County Health Department??! Letting me know I have a reportable disease??!
Cryptosporidiosis AND E.coli.
So it looks like I'm either the most unlucky person on the planet, or maybe I should try my luck at the lottery. Either way- the past 3.5 weeks have been the worst of my life and that's why I haven't posted.
At the end of the day I can think of two positives:
1. I'm positive I will NEVER go back to France
2. Ya girl is still positive for crypto!
You absolutely have to do a follow-up on the how, why and who all got it also. And, for Pete's sake- there was a LOT more to the trip than crypto!!
